Cynthia Chilton Hauck has had a lifetime love affair |
with Mexico. First traveling with her grandmother in the late 40’s and early 50’s on trains that unfortunately no longer exist. Growing up in Texas – Mexico was an easy to visit neighbor!
Seeing the Alexander Girard exhibit at the Hemisfair in San Antonio, many years ago, was the beginning of her love of folk art, especially from Latin America. (This exhibit is now housed at the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe.) Her first pieces were figures from her grandmother...now over 100 years old.
The color, the sounds (in case you haven’t noticed, Mexico is noisy!), the smiles, the love of children and family…the delicious smells and tastes..these are Mexico.
After finding each other in New Mexico, Harlond and Cynthia were married in Italy and then built a home on the Pacific coast of Mexico filled with the now large collection of folk art.
Harlond is the “first assistant”; sometimes joining excursions; helping with logistics or anything else that needs to be done.
We use local guides/drivers from each area. We want to support the local population and, they are the real experts on their part of Mexico!
